My top 3 tips?

For English language learners, job interviews conducted in English can be challenging. Many clients want to know my top 3 tips for success in a job interview. I can generalise about these, however, job interviews are more about the person going for the interview, than the job itself.

The real work is done before applying for the job. It’s important to ask questions like:

  • What are my personal and professional goals and how is this company and job role going to help me achieve these?
  • Are the job roles and responsibilities going to keep me motivated and satisfied?
  • Is there enough opportunity for promotion within the company?
  • Is the company, job and culture the right fit for me (ethically, professionally and personally)?
  • Is it likely that I will feel inspired, creative, valued and supported in this role and company?

The answers to these questions may give you a clear indication whether you are a good fit for that job.

So, if I were to generalise, here are my top 3 tips.

Tip 1. If your answers to the above questions is yes, you can feel confident that you are the best person for that job. This will impact how you feel in the interview.

Tip 2. Develop your English language to communicate who you are as a professional (work approach), a person (character) and to comfortably build rapport with the interviewer (personality).

Tip 3. Practise, Practise and Practise.

Testimonial. ‘It’s been incredibly useful having lessons with David. From the very beginning he demonstrated to be professional, efficient and organised. Not only did he develop my level of English, but also helped me to gain confidence working on my soft skills. I have also achieved a great knowledge of interview skills and was successful in my recent job selection process. I hope to keep working on my English with David.’  Javier – (MBA Graduate), Valencia, Spain.
